Boy, you cant wait for EAD ...:) I don't blame ya for that, I think in case of July 2nd you should count from the date when your check gets cashed. In case of July filers we should not be surprised if EADs and APs take more than 6 months being on cynical side.

I do have H1B vaild until jan 2011(Did not use EADso far), and my wife has EAD vaild untill oct 2010. How about my 7 year old son (I had renewed his H4 along with my H1b in 2008 - did not have ead AP that time).
Do I need to do any thing, is it required to renew AP to stay in status.

Really makes me feel awful when I come across someone who is waiting since 2001 for labor.. This system is seriously broken.. I myself had to wait for over three years to get my labor, and I know how frustrating it is.. I have two friends with priority date older than mine, and they are still stuck in labor. Very depressing. I wish and hope the *&$%!*#@ at Philly and Dallas get their act together and there is a flurry of labor approvals in the next few weeks..

My sister is currently working abroad as a Nurse and is looking to work in US. I have done some asking around and figured that Nurses are not welcomed in US as they used to be.
My question is: Is it possible for my sister to come and work in the country on an H1 visa, since she cannot come in with GC anyways. If yes, how do I explore this avenue.
I am raising this query through IV forum to get more clarity on her options. I am being told that there are specialist nurses who are coming in, on H1 to US. Only I can't validate it with anyone.
Any help would be appreciated as always.

The change of status would have been effective in october. You do not need to inform USCIS until september. As a matter for your benefit, avoid it telling to USCIS until september. Check with previous company's lawyer if they applied change in status. The attorney will tell you that. I-94 that comes with H1 status change, and is your property and you can demand that from the company. If they do not cooperate, inform USCIS anyway.

I had absolutely no problems, it's all smooth as long as you carry all the supporting docs. I did have a shitty experience at JFK -- there are few morons at the POE you can't do much about.

If we turn up in lower numbers - media will ignore. Rallies happen everyday in DC - and media wont bother unless numbers are huge or there is a fight or something.

I am an F1 grad student - I was planning on going home this winter, and while there I would have to renew my visa so as to be able to re-enter the US.
However, while filling out the forms to set up an appointment for the renewal interview, I remembered that I had a misdemeanor conviction (I pled guilty) for bad checks (this was a very long time ago, about 6 years - it was a bad time, I made some mistakes). When I say 'yes', on the DS-156 form, in response to the question regarding criminal convictions, how likely is it that I will have my visa renewed? Isn't is usually the case that consular officers are looking for any reason to deny visas/renewals?
It seems like my only option is to postpone/cancel my trip, if I want to be able to come back to complete my studies.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I heard that it can take anytime between 2-8 weeks and the H1B holder is not supposed to start working till they receive the SSN.
H1B workers come to USA and start work immediately. It takes 2-3 weeks for SSN. For paying salary SSN is required, without which a company can't pay salary - but they pay advances.
I remember myself getting advances, California drivers permit, Auto Insurance, etc. without SSN.

rajeshiv, Thank you for your response. I mean, i used my personnel check (My Checking A/C with Chase) to pay the I-485, EAD and Advance Parole fees.
