Even if your assertion is true, did you notice that the keyword in your post is "encouraged" and not "outlawed".
If France merely "encouraged" Muslim women to forgo the veil and burqa, I think there's very little I would say against such encouragement.

just a quick note, if you guys have a PS3, buy that version of the game- the PS3 version has steam support and you'll get the windows and mac versions too for free.

Wait a minute...I think I see your problem. Just click once on you document folder and it will open very quickly.
what you are doing is simulating a right click (Click and hold the button down). this will bring up a Start menu-like interface).. I think if you right click this will happen instantly, too.... (or maybe it's option-click...I'm not on my mac at the moment, unfortunately). There is SUPPOSED to be a delay when you click and hold like that.
I've never seen Finder slow... and I'm on the same machine as you are.
(of course I may have completely misread this and be totally wrong, in which case I would ask what apps you have open, how much memory is on the machine, etc.)

I'm kind of a newbie to the whole GSM and EV-DO thing. Which is faster EV-DO Revision A or the CINGULAR EDGE network?
IF a GSM phone or NETWORK is so slow, what good is it? E-mail? How are we going to run Mobile iChat on our new Apple iPhones if we are running on a slow network?
edge was att wireless' stop gap effort for 2G GSM. GSM is dead. EDGE was dead a few years ago. CDMA based EVDO or UMTS are minimum requirements for next generation wireless applications. Cingular has chosen UMTS and has said publicly that they have no interest in supporting 4G efforts. Verison and Sprint use EVDO for their 3G network which is faster than UMTS. I would have to hope and guess that since EVDO is becoming the 3G defacto standard apple would chose it.

When i click on the link for the quicktime stream it does say live stream paused. would this indicate that it is a live stream? What time is the event starting?

Space is the biggest problem...
Damn this Kinect is one greedy mofo in regards to space. I could not use it in my own room due to lack of space, the same room where Move & Wii both have no issues what so ever. This is going to be its biggest problem by far.
Were talking 10-12 feet for best results. That's quite some distance from your TV and if you have to factor in a room having sofa's & chairs - it soon is evident your going to need a bigger home. Kids can forget this in their bedrooms anyway.
Once I was able to give it the room it demands it worked great, but as I say without that room - forget it.
I thought you were just exaggerating, but after buying Kinect this weekend I found out it requires you to place the sensor:
- within 2 to 6 feet of the floor
- where the floor is visible to the sensor
- in a position where there is 6 to 8 feet of "free" space for single player or 8 feet of "free" space for two players
- centered below or on top of your TV (no angles, TV mount not included)
- within clear sight (given)
- well lit area with minimal ambient noise
Ridiculous. You would need at minimum a 42" HDTV and a radius of 8 feet around the Kinect sensor to play adequately.
I refuse to complicate my living room setup by putting the 360 in there. So, I guess I"ll just send the damn thing back as there is no possible furniture configuration in my game room to meet those requirements.

i miss ilfe 07 and where is iwork 07? i'm not interested in the iphone, itvo r the new airport. while groundbreaking to many there is nothing this year i'm interested in.:(

People with PCs must not leave their houses much...I've been to coffee shops and airports all over, and it seems about half of the laptops I see are Apple.
I concurr. Almost every concert I go to now, I see a MacBook on stage. I see mac notebooks everywhere. One thing I hate is when i see people dissuading potential buyers away from macintoshes, simply because Windows is the more common operating system, when most of the time, these are new computer buyers and wouldn't be able to use Wwindows in the first place.

iDVD -- yes, it should just be a module of iMovie (always should have been). If Apple doesn't want to support Blu-ray on religious grounds, let others do it as a plug in. If you have kids, you want your memories to be archived on physical media, not uploaded for all to see on a public website which could be sunset at any moment. You really expect YouTube to be running in 50 years with all of your uploaded cat videos still intact? I'd rather take my chances I can get an optical player that will still work and play back my DVD and BDs, thank you.

I expect my DVDs and CDs to be useful decades after my HD storage has died and been replaced multitudes of times. Big HDs and the cloud are wonderfully convenient and are increasing trends but some form of physical storage is going to stick around, even if it is wads of disposable thumb drives.
I agree with most of your post but the optical media DVD thing...I agree with Apple's unspoken philosophy that these are dying technologies.
We had stacks of home videos (some even imported from VHS) and photo slideshows that I had meticulously iMovied with titles and transitions and soundtracks, burned to iDVDs with beautiful menus and backgrounds...and guess what. Nobody ever watched them.
After I got the Gen-1 :apple:TV, all this fruitless work stopped immediately. I simply started copying the raw footage off our various digital movie taking devices right into iTunes, and meticulously tagged as a TV Show called "Family Home Movies" with each year serving as a "season." Now all these videos are readily available on the :apple:TV and everybody scrolls through them with ease and watches them all the time! Plus they are syncable to everybody's iDevices and easily backed up across several hard drives and cloud services. Every couple years when the hard drive fills up, I buy a new one with twice the storage at half the price and keep on filling it. I predict sending each of my kids of to college one day with some future high capacity iGadget filled with a complete copy of all their family memories.
I don't see that hard drives are inherently less reliable than discs. They each have their achilles heels. You'd want to keep backups of either kind of storage, and hard drive backup workflow is readily automated vs keeping archives of discs. And as you say..."if you have kids" then you also know that kids + discs is a recipe for damage and loss. The odds of multiple simultaneous hard drive and cloud failures deleting all your media at once is slim.
As storage capacity increases, prices go down, bandwidth improves, cloud storage capacity grows...surely the future is that media of all types will be "stored somewhere" but can be watched anywhere. The new :apple:TV has started to simulate this with its streaming model, Home Sharing, and Airplay (almost to a redundant and reiterative self-referential fault).
What I do wish Apple would do, if they are phasing out iDVD, is provide a more seamless workflow for management and categorization of personal video content across devices. Steve always demos these beautifully filmed "home movies" of kids snowboarding, fishing, and so on, iMovies them into Hollywood features, then uploads to YouTube. But the iLife suite is goofy in how it handles video locally, which is probably what most people actually want to do instead of, or at least in addition to, YouTube.

Well, I can't really complain about the lack of FW because I knew it didn't have it when I chose to buy it. It's the limitations they didn't make obvious that bother me, like Bootcamp.
But thanks for sharing the "Collectors Edition" title. I like that and I'll be using it from now on.
I knew it didn't have FW, I just didn't know how much I'd miss it. And the newer sealed longer batteries I think are better. I'm getting ready to sell mine this month. I have an iMac and so we only use the portable for iChat at the breakfast table - grandparents with our kids. The new iPad fixes that.
