Lets put it this way.
If you already have an H1B and are using your ead just as a back up, then no, you do not have to renew right away, you can re-apply as long as you have copies of your applied I-485 etc.
If you do not have an H1B but you also do not plan to work for a while (in the case of some dependants), then again, NO you do not need to renew right away.
However if the EAD is your PRIMARY document without which you cannot work, but you DO want to work, then YES you do want to renew it before the current ead expires.
My friend who is a contractor in the company where I am working, is right now on H1B. He is a very hard worker and cheerful fellow. My employer (among big5 tech companies in US) offered him fulltime position.
His EAD is going to be expired soon, as he is a july 07 filer. He is worried that if he joins my employer at this point, and if he doesn't get his EAD renewed in time, he would be in trouble.
He already sent papers for renew but haven't heard back. After six weeks, his current EAD will expire.

When they say "Continued Heavy Demand", what does it mean? Howcome there can be demand with Older Priority Dates? Labor Substitution is no longer possible so there can't be new demand with Older PD. So howcome PD goes back? Does anybody have insight into that?

I am trying to collect a list of some prominent people (scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, etc.) who are EB immigrants or were/are on H1 for an article. Please share if you happen to know or can point to such information. For example, orkut was invented by a former H-1B visa holder. Any examples with relevance in the current economic situation will be specially useful. For example, somebody who immigrated to US on EB category is now running a business and/or employing Americans.

I was not sure about this. I guess medicals are valid for 15months (if I am not wrong). But again, I just sent the medicals with new I-693 form with old results (like old wine in the new bottle :) ). Its just that the Doctor forgot to fill couple of check boxes, so I hope they accept it.

I had applied for PERM in 2006 with software programmer title with 8 yrs exp in EB2 and got it approved so i don't think it should be a issue. I have applied my second PERM in April 09 as senior software engineer with 10+ exp in EB2 still waiting to get it approved. My lawyer never raised any issue with my current labor in EB2 so i think we should qualify in EB2 with software engineer position. Where did you find this information about limiting EB2 to managers only? If you want to get in the line for GC don't waste time.. do it ASAP. It is taking a long time to get PERM approvals, don't know whats going on at DOL and why it is taking this long. There are hardly any approvals after Nov 08. Did anyone with PD after Nov 08 got their PERM approved recently?

The whole non-compete agreement is a cruel joke on the employee who finds his own project. All these incapable bad desi employers ban the employee from joining the client whom the employee got them in the first place.
I know a friend of mine works for an employer, he found his own project through a vendor, now because of non-compete agreement he cannot join the client, nor the vendor and now the employer and vendors are buddies and thinking of other business opportunities. In all this the employee is the loser while it was he who brought the employer and vendor together into minting more money at his expense.
This is especially true of smaller companies. Big companies at least have real end clients and find projects. With smaller companies, employee finds projects, helps build client list for his company, gets paid less than market rate, etc.
If the GC process were smoother, a lot of such employers would shut down. Their business model is helped by the immigration mess....

I ran into the same issue when my wife I-94 was about to expire even though she had valid visa in her passport till 2010. We just crossed over to Canada (through Detroit) and after spending an hour we returned back to US. On our entry, we requested the officer to issue new I-94 since it was expiring. He directed us to the immigration officer who issued a new I-94.
My I-94 has expired becoz it was issued up to my passport validity. If I have to renew it, is it a good option to cross border and get a new I-94, like going to Mexico or Canada. Please advice. I am not sure how to proceed. No one knows the procedure. Please if anyone knows, advice.

Labor has to be pending 1 year. I think you will get your PERM approval soon as DOL at present is free.
Be prepared with the paper work for your I-140 premium so that you can file it as soon as you get the PERM approval.
The lawyers will say it will take them no time but they will delay it by at-least 3 weeks to get the paper work done.
In the worst case go for a vacation for 4 months to Canada, get your paper work mailed to you, get the extension stamping done and be back.
I hope this helps and good luck on your green card pursuit...

Backside of checks are generally Messy - I understand your Problem. I faced this Problem during my H1B because the receipt was Lost in Mail.
Call USCIS and tell Level1 operator that you are 100% sure that your checks are encashed but its Unreadable. Please connect me to Level2 so that i can confirm the details by FN,LN,DOB .
